In February 2026, the Council surveyed the residents of the village and parish of Onecote, and the nearby area, to better understand their interests and concerns. The purpose of the survey is to help the Parish Council set priorities and focus efforts in the next 3-5 years.
Summary Findings
The following are the key findings from the survey.
- Residents most appreciate the community spirit, peaceful rural environment, beautiful scenery, and the friendliness of the people. Local amenities such as the village hall and pub reinforce social connections, while the countryside offers tranquility and outdoor enjoyment. The parish is valued for its calm, supportive atmosphere, strong social ties, and natural beauty.
- Residents overwhelmingly value the parish’s rural charm, community feel, and unspoiled environment. Their biggest concerns relate to infrastructure (roads, drainage, transport), flooding, speeding, housing affordability and development, and poor digital connectivity. Their hopes centre on preserving the parish’s character, maintaining community facilities, and encouraging a balanced population with more young families.
- Residents say life in the parish could be improved through better public transport, safer roads with reduced speeding, improved footpaths, more consistent road and verge maintenance, and actions to reduce flooding. Residents want better digital connectivity with faster broadband and mobile signal throughout the village and parish. There is a desire for greater community support, and residents also ask for clearer communication from the parish council, with more regular updates on events and actions being taken.
- Residents would like to see more community, sports, and wellbeing activities, as well as enhanced local services and facilities. The suggestions show a strong appetite for making the parish more active, inclusive, and socially vibrant.
- Residents’ top priorities over the next five years are to reduce speeding and improve road safety, ensure better maintenance of roads and drainage, address flooding risks, upgrade digital connectivity, and continue building a safe, connected, and well-maintained community.
- Local businesses want better digital and mobile connectivity, alongside actions that will improve the appearance of the village and local infrastructure (e.g., paths) for visitors, as tourism is an important source of revenue.Residences’ top three priorities for action are, in order:
Condition of roads and pavements
Mobile phone signal
Traffic volumes and speed.

What Will Happen Next?
As stated above, the purpose of the survey is to help the Parish Council set priorities and focus efforts in the next 3-5 years. Now that we have the community’s views, concerns, and priorities, we will determine what we can do, set out a plan, and publish it on this web page.
